Key Stage One
In Key Stage One the curriculum is taught creatively through topics, each topic lasts for half a term.
Throughout Key Stage One children will be taught literacy skills discretely and have opportunity to build on these skills and apply them within Big Write sessions.
Early reading and writing skills are taught with a focus on phonics. Throughout Key Stage One children will follow ‘Letters and Sounds’ approach to phonics. In Year 1 children have daily phonic sessions learning phase 3 and 5 graphemes. In Year 2 children have daily sessions of phonics/spelling, where children are taught a combination of phase 5 graphemes and phase 6 spelling patterns.
